Why don't we just have 87 (85) and 93 (91) and skip this mid grade stuff. seriously, why use it?

thats a great price on diesel though! Im also in Fl, and in venice prices are similar, but diesel is running same price as premium!

Some cars need mid grade to prevent knock, but don't quite need or want to foot the bill for premium, is my thinking. For me, I'd rather have 87/93 and get a discount on the 93 for getting rid of the mid.

Midgrade is usually 50/50 mix of the 87 and 91/93. So, stations dont have to do much extra work to add an additional price point in there. I wonder how many people really buy it though. I imagine mostly uninformed consumers who want to do something nice for their cars.

I was trying to think of a single car that requires midgrade...in which case, put in premium, or at the very least, do a pump mix

It requires regular but i put in midgrade cause thats the kind of awesome car person I am to my ride.

as our 93 grand voyager aged it would only drink Amoco silver no other. Anything else and it ran rough.

I use midgrade. Car knocks kinda hard without it.

Why do you need to have so many? We just have a choice of black nozzle (diesel) or green one (petrol) and that's your lot.

Because that way it gives an option for people to spend more money for no reason, without having to step all the way up to the premium.

I seem to recall hearing of cases with older cars that just seem happier at mid-grade or above, even though at one point they were rated to run 87.

This just means they have fancy pumps that give more options for how the gas is blended. Because for the most part gas stations only really have 2 tanks, 1 for regular and 1 for premium.

Just another reason not to live here in California.... We can't get anything above 91 without going to a place that sells 104 octane race fuel for almost $10/Gal. That, and I just paid $4.35 for 91 octane
